Batchflow is a CNC turning subcontractor totally focused on customer needs. With continuous investment since its establishment in 1986 Batchflow operates highly productive CNC machines and currently supplies a wide range of industries such Defence, Motor sport and hydraulic equipment manufacturers.
At present Batchflow uses Q8 cutting fluids for both our soluble and neat oil applications.
For our CNC Turning and Machining Centres we currently use Baroni XMP. This product suits our machine shop well, as we require a grade that is compatible with a broad range of materials that we machine. We have also found that this product is a lot less susceptible to ‘foaming’, this has been a problem for us in the past with previous soluble oils however this Q8 product has resolved this issue.
Secondly for our Sliding-Head Lathe section we selected Bach NKM. Prior to the installation of Bach NKM it was noticed that the previous oil had discoloured painted surfaces and also left a thin lacquer on our Machine Tools. I can safely say that this scenario has not been repeated running Q8 Bach NKM. The oil has kept the machines clean and is a pleasure to work with.
Q8 offer us a high standard of service and support. We have regular visits from their field service technician who monitors the condition of the oils in our machines. We believe this is a very important aspect of the service, as it covers both the performance and Health & Safety aspects of the products.

Oxford Precision Components, established in 1990, are a precision contract manufacturing company serving the petrochemical, pharmaceutical, nuclear and medical industries.
We decided to trial Q8 Baroni XSP on one of our VMC machines in February 2009. The main aim of the trial was to improve tool life when machining 316 stainless steel repeat batch work.
I can confirm that the exercise was a complete success with a considerable improvement of up to 20%. It was also noted that the fluid was far cleaner in use in comparison to the previous grades.

Albion Design and Fabrication Ltd is Europe's leading manufacturer of display systems. Our modern machine shop consists of CNC turning centres and precision sliding head lathes.
Recently we undertook a project to source all of our lubricants from one supplier, and requested Q8Oils visit our manufacturing facility to assess our requirements and advise on areas of improvement.
On conclusion of the machine shop survey, Q8 highlighted several areas for improvement with recommendations for replacement products.
We were aware that due to our factory location the mains water is extremely hard and this had always affected the stability of our previous coolants. After sustained trials of Q8 Baroni XAA on a turning centre, we realised that the product was remaining very clean in use and was allowing us to achieve excellent surface finishes on all aluminium components manufactured.
For the second stage of trials, the attention switched to our sliding head lathes which originally ran dark coloured neat cutting oil. Once machine was replaced with Q8 Bach NCL and we immediately noticed that the oil was very light and pleasant to work with, What impressed us even further was the incorporation of a 'low mist' additive within the product.
Today Albion Deisgn and Fabrication use Q8 products for all of our metal working and lubricant requirements. I have no hesitation in recommending their products and technical services.

Having previously used Houghton's Hocut 3380 on our Blohm, Mori Seiki and Studer machines we were apprehensive when changing to Q8Oils Baroni XGPS. Q8 Baroni XGPS is now used in all machines with a typical concentration of between 5.0 and 7.0%. The results have been excellent with improvements in the following areas being established:
- Improved fines dispersal
- No foaming
- Improved cutting and grinding performance across all metals
- Improved tool life
- No staining of aluminium grades 7075 and 6082
- Excellent performance under extreme pressure
- Capability to machine Super Duplex at 12.0 to 14.0%
- Excellent pH stability

During the early part of 2009 and due to the introduction of cast aluminium, we decided that we needed to look at a metalworking fluid with improved EP and lubricity. The Q8 Oils Area Sales Manager recommended Baroni XGPS due to its ability to machine aerospace grade aluminium as well as cast iron, yellow metals and steels.
A trial was set up and isolated on the Mynx Machining Centre where the Operator was milling and drilling cast aluminium, with a specific emphasis on improvements in tool life of the various sizes of drills and taps, in particular M6 x1.0p x 18mm deep.
Previously this hole meant stopping the machine and applying an EP oil to help tapping, however, with the introduction of Baroni XGPs no additive was used and one tap did 400 plus holes before running out of components.
Significant improvements were demonstrated in the following areas; Up to four times tool life, improved surface finish and clearer tramp oil separation were noted whilst the coolant maintained good bio-stability with a pH of 9.0. Needless to say we showed significant improvements in all materials we machine.
Since the trial we have now converted all our CNC Machining Centres and Lathes to Q8 Oils Baroni XGPS. This is typically used at 4.0 to 7.0% with a starting pH of 9.3 after initial fill, although when machining cast iron the concentration is dropped by the Operators to 3.0% without affecting the products bio-stability.
The Q8 Field Service Technician carries out a regular condition monitoring service, consisting of refractometer, pH and tramp oil levels checks, these being recorded on the Q8 Oils Machine Charts with an overview report being sent for my collation as historical data.
Previously when a machine required cleaning out it was a major operation with cleaning agents being used to flush system prior to emptying and all metalworking fluids being disposed of, then the sump had to be thoroughly cleaned to remove all traces of bacteria. Now when a machine is to be cleaned out we drain off all metalworking fluids and with the pH being perfect we use it in other machines with no affect on machine or operator. The only thing disposed of is the build up of swarf.
It goes without saying that the savings are substantial not only with the cost of the metalworking fluid but the disposal costs.

The use of Q8 Baroni XCIS cured all our foaming problems when using CNC milling machines with very high pressure through coolant tooling; so there is no need for extra additives which are expensive.
An added bonus is that we found the sump life extended to 12 months and longer on machines running 10 hours a day. 5 days a week.

We changed to Priamus V12 drawing oil in our Rod machine during 2007 as recommended by Steve Canter (Field Service Engineer). The oil was actually under development at this stage.
Steve's recommendations were based on: clean running oil with excellent lubrication properties and this oil was the next generation to the Priamus X10. The oil was trialed with great success and from this we have decided to roll out to use in another machine.
Steve is the Field Service Engineer for Q8Oils and provides an excellent monthly service to ensure our oil is running at maximum efficiency.

Masons are a well-established company of over 150 years, manufacturing various non-ferrous alloys, in strip form, supplying companies worldwide.
